Every full moon day, exciting Carnatic music programs are held in the presence of monastery in Suttur. Situated at the foot of the Chamundi hill, the campus is a beautiful, quiet location. At the time of the 150<sup>th \u00a0<\/sup>concert, well-known Carnatic singer Abhishek \u00a0Raghuram was seated on the stage. He is a well known artist, hailing from a family of stalwarts in various genres of music.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/surahonne.comwp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_20140417_183637.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2254 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/surahonne.comwp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_20140417_183637-289x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_20140417_183637\" width=\"289\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/surahonne.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_20140417_183637-289x300.jpg 289w, https:\/\/surahonne.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/IMG_20140417_183637-986x1024.jpg 986w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the evening slowly descended into dusk, starting with some warm-up <em>Keertana<\/em>s and <em>Varnas, <\/em>the whole crowd was taken into the world of music. Very next to it, when the singer started the<em> Raaga Hindolam, <\/em>the audience seemed totally excited and started getting deeper and deeper into that beautiful feel of the <em>Raaga<\/em>. <em>Alapana <\/em>was continued. As he was continuously switching one by one among bass-mid-and trebles, the audience became speechless, excited and one could see them nodding the head along with the <em>Taala<\/em>. The \u00a0singer was supported by excellent accompanists\u00a0 in creating the rightful ambience, so much so that even the Kids who came with their moms were sitting silently, as if mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the \u00a0atmosphere and the melody floating around.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hindol<\/em>am \u2013 The Raga with a Hypnotizing\u00a0Melody.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hindolam<\/em> is a serene, gentle, soulful, enchanting and pleasing meditative raga. This <em>Raaga<\/em> is said to have been created from Siva\u2019s <em>Taandav<\/em> (cosmic dance), so it has a vigor and energy about it. This raga is associated with <em>Vasantha Rithu<\/em>(Spring) which is full of freshness and colors, which brings forth the feelings of well being and boosts your mood. The air smells clean and floral. It can be aptly said that\u00a0<em>Hindolam<\/em> conveys the moods of <em>Shringara<\/em> primarily. The raga creates increased feelings of compassion and reduced anxiety which in turn provides relief to patients of low blood pressure.\u00a0It is also said that the raga helps in maintaining normal digestive gas and body temperature along with restful sleep and tranquility.\u00a0This raga\u00a0also conveys the divine<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Bhakthi Bhava<\/em>\u00a0and is astonishingly refreshing when sung in the mornings.<\/p>\n<p>It is often seen that, whenever <em>Hindolam<\/em> is taken by musicians in public concerts, they restrict the <em>Alaaps <\/em>for a few minutes and switch to the song soon.\u00a0 It is quite hard to handle this raga, which has only five notes (<strong>S G2 M1 D1 N2 S)<\/strong> for hours.\u00a0 When a singer particularly has powered knowledge of notes (<em>Swaras<\/em>), a soothing voice, creativity and a mind to enjoy the beauty in anything, this raga can come out elegant.\u00a0 When there is no intention of showing off their music knowledge level and the raga is presented with feeling each note of the raga, it reaches the hearts. No kid was disturbing moms and no person left the place till the end. Minds were asking this moment stay for some more time and to last ever.\u00a0 When it was over, the whole audience, after the claps, was silent, immersed in the divine\u00a0 of<em> Raaga Hindolam<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Very next to it, when <em>Shankarabharanam<\/em> <em>raaga<\/em> was presented very maturely with all tough and beautiful note combinations and \u201c<em>Sri Chamundeswari Paalayamam..<\/em> \u201c was presented,\u00a0 feel of <em>Bhakti<\/em> was in air.<\/p>\n<p>No need to learn the music and its rules to listen and to enjoy the music. \u00a0It just needs the ears to listen and a mind to appreciate the beauty and goodness. \u00a0Every bang\/sound in nature has music within. If one\u00a0listens to a sound carefully, can hear the Rhythm(<em>Laya<\/em>) in it. As <em>Dr. Rajkumar<\/em> sung in the film \u201c<em>Jeevana Chaitra<\/em>\u201d, \u201c<em>Naadamaya ee lokavella..<\/em> \u201c just means that everything in this universe is musical. Floating water, air, breeze, chirping of birds, crying baby\u2019s noise .. everything has a music integrated within. Every sound\u00a0has its own <em>Shruti<\/em>(Pitch) and <em>Laya<\/em>(Rhythm) and <em>Taala<\/em>(Beat).\u00a0 See the pet dog which reacts to the change in voice tone of home maker, baby which sleeps listening a song by mom,\u00a0 cow which keeps quite if it listens music while milking, calf which stops crying when It hears a melody! As Lord Krishna used to play flute when he was busy with cows \ud83d\ude09 Lot many things are there if we have a deep look.<\/p>\n<p>Parents who send their kids to music and dance classes and insist them to pass the music tests, need to\u00a0understand that art is not limited to so called examinations and their certificates. By-hearting the \u201c<em>Raaga-lakshana\u201d<\/em> for those examinations would not help until the creative mind works on the theories they learnt.
